Personal Care Services

Barb City Manor does not provide medical or personal care services. However, such services are available through local home health agencies. Residents using personal care services can purchase health care, assistance with bathing and personal laundry from the home health agency of their choice.

A visiting nurse can be contacted to assist with special medical or medicine questions. Residents interested in personal care services can contract with the local home health agency of their choice. Personal care services are billed by the provider on a self-pay basis, unless covered in some instances (such as discharge from hospital) by Medicare or private insurance.

A list of local home healthcare providers may be obtained from the BCM staff. These services enable residents to safely remain at Barb City Manor for a much greater period of time, and also help in times of crisis when nursing home care may not be indicated, but temporary assistance is needed.

Rental Assistance

Rental assistance is available through HUD at Barb City Manor. The resident can live in any affordable unit they wish at Barb City Manor and does not have to be a DeKalb County resident. The assistance is based upon income and the formula is 30% of the resident's monthly income subtracted from $480 (maximum allowed for rent and utilities by HUD).

$480.00 - (30% resident's income) = Section 8 rental assistance

Example: If the resident income is $800.00

Then...

$800.00 * 30% = $240.00 and $480 - $240 = $240

The maximum income (including Social Security, pension, interest) allowed during the year for this assistance here is, therefore, about $23,750 or $1,979 per month. However, medical expenses are allowed as a deduction. The assistance is allocated through our local HUD office:

The DeKalb County Housing Authority
310 N. 6th St., DeKalb, IL
815-758-0958
Ask for Karen Unger, Barb Sennett, or Evelyn Hunter.

An application needs to be filled with the HUD office. As soon as a person knows that they are moving into an apartment at Barb City Manor, they need to set up an inspection date with the HUD office. This is very important because the Section 8 rental assistance will not begin until an inspection by the HUD office is made.

If you have any questions about the HUD Section 8 rental assistance, or want further information, do not hesitate to call.
